Antiguo Cementerio del Carmen, Ponferrada, 21.5.1942

Antonio Fernández Guerrero, 25, José Canedo Fernández, 26, vecinos de Quilós, fueron fusilados en las tapias del antiguo Cementerio del Carmen y enterrados en una fosa. En esa zona podri´a haber los restos de unos 200 fusilados, desde 18 mineros que se enfrentaron a la Guardia Civil sublevada en 1936 hasta el mítico guerrillero antifranquista Manuel Girón fusilado en 1951. El cementerio fue clausurado en 1965 y se cree que sigue habiendo restos humanos en la antigua parte civil del cementerio.

Antonio Fernández Guerrero, 25, José Canedo Fernández, 26, neighbours of Quilós, were shot at the cemetery walls and buried in a common grave. In that area could be the remains of 200 executed, from 18 miners who faced the rebelling Guardia Civil in 1936 up to the legendary guerrilla fighter Manuel Girón executed in 1951. The cemetery was closed in 1965 and it is believed that there are still human remains in the civil part of the former cemetery.
