Monte de Estépar I, Burgos, 8.1936-10.1936
El Monte de Estépar reunía las condiciones idóneas para convertirse en el principal escenario de exterminio de la provincia de Burgos. Estaba ubicado a escasos 21 km de Burgos y bien comunicado con la Prisión Central por la carretera que conducía a Valladolid. Apartado y cubierto de una tupida vegetación el Monte de Estépar permitía ocultar a los habitantes de las localidades próximas los crímenes que allí se cometían sistemáticamente. Además era un terreno parcialmente arenoso y fácil de excavar.
The Monte de Estépar met the ideal conditions to become the main scenario of extermination of the province of Burgos. It was located just 21 km from Burgos and well connected to the Central Prison by the road that led to Valladolid. Secluded and covered with dense vegetation, Monte de Estépar allowed to hide the crimes that were committed systematically there from the inhabitants of nearby towns. It was also a partially sandy and easy to excavate terrain.
